I get asked all the time what I do to stay so young looking. An avocado a day is usually my answer with a laugh. While I do eat an avocado every day, I’m not sure that is the reason I look younger than my age. Seriously though, anytime I tell someone my real age, they are surprised. They think I’m at least a decade younger.
If you scour the internet you will come up with a plethora of lists that tell you to do the following to stay young-looking:
1. Drink plenty of water. (Ok, ok I do this one)
2. Never Smoke (I smoked until age 46)
3. Limit Alcohol Use (I drink almost every weekend.)
4. Stay out of the Sun (What? I am a sun worshipper, but honestly, I have used SPF cream, when I remember, for many years)
I think these are great tips, and anyone that follows them will benefit. However, I think they miss the boat on the most important ones. What does keep us young? I believe that true beauty starts on the inside.
Here are my infinite ways to stay young looking inside and out:
Laugh All the Time
Life isn’t as serious as we like to think it is. Having a healthy mind is essential to how you feel. You are the only one in control of your thoughts. So why not find humor in our day to day lives? If you don’t laugh once a day. I mean one of those deep-down laughs, your missing out! Have you ever seen someone laughing hysterically that didn’t radiate beauty? Yea, me either.
Eat Healthy Organic Foods
Do this as much as possible. I hate hearing people say they can’t eat some plant foods because they are too fattening. I even had a nurse friend tell me once she didn’t eat quinoa because it had too much fat in it. Hey folks, two words for you. Healthy Fats. Your cells need them for beautiful skin, so eat them. I live by the rule that if it comes from a plant, it is ok to eat if it comes from a manufacturing plant, it isn’t. So, do yourself a favor, eat the avocado and limit your processed food intake.
Don’t Take Anything Personally
One of the things I see, so many women do, is worry about how others see them. Stop caring what others think of you. It makes you stress and worry, two things that are stealing your beauty. Nothing that anyone does is because of you. It’s because of their own screwed up ideas about how they see the world. The next time someone says you look “fat” or “tired,” don’t run to the mirror and stress over if they are right or wrong. Ignore their comments and move on.
Stand Tall
The weirdest thing happened to me not long ago. Someone told me that what makes me beautiful is how I carry myself. I had never heard this before. I didn’t even realize how I carried myself, but I’m confident that I owe this to my mother, who made me walk around the house with books on my head as a child. Be confident and proud of who you are.
Stay Away from Drama
Sounds simple, right? People are always going to try and bring negativity and drama in your life. People love to get you involved in their issues. So, don’t. It’s that simple. Several times throughout my life, I’ve had to remove people who wanted nothing but to cause drama. I’m sure it didn’t win me any rewards in the friend department, and that’s ok. My inner peace means more than their craziness. Learn to let go of toxic people.
Have Fun
My absolute favorite thing. No matter what I’m doing, I have the mindset to make it the most fun as I possibly can. Now I’m not saying that this doesn’t cause me to be called a crazy person from time to time, but that’s ok. I’m enjoying life, and that is truly the most beautiful thing you can do for yourself.
Radiate your love, peace, and happiness from the inside as much as possibly can. To me, that is real beauty.
