The mindfulness challenge for this week was to thank our bodies
. Our skin is a large part of our body system. It constitutes around 16% of our total body weight. Unfortunately, we spend a lot of time abusing it.
I am huge on making skincare as simple as possible. For twenty years, I’ve made my own. That doesn’t mean when I’m busy; I haven’t purchased face cream in a pinch. However, I always go back to making my own and keeping the ingredients simple.
It’s super easy, and the best part is? You know what goes on your skin.
My skin tends to be on the dry side when I am unbalanced in some way, and my birth certificate claims I almost fifty years old. Those combined make it necessary that what I put on my skin is of the utmost importance.
Honestly, I think I look pretty darn good for a woman of my age. People don’t believe me when I tell them how old I am. That makes me feel like a bit of a badass. I love to see women my age who can still rock it like they’re twenty.
Since I get asked a lot about what I do to take care of my skin, I thought I’d do this article for all those middle-aged women out there who still believe they can glow at any age.
Any of the highlighted words will lead you to Amazon, where I purchase these products to make my own. If you make a purchase, it is much appreciated and helps me to keep this blog going.
To cleanse my face:
I use something simple, Judee’s Whole Milk Powder. This whole milk powder is hormone-free.
I place a little dab in my hand and mix it with floral hydrosol or water to make a paste. Then it is applied over my face and neck. After a good massage on my skin, I rinse it off. It’s that easy.
My cleanser comes with a story. I was at my dermatologist almost a year ago. She asked me which of the skin cleansers I used because my skin looked amazing. When I told her whole milk powder, I honestly think she thought I was lying, but I wasn’t.
Cleopatra took baths in milk, and it has been said she was beautiful beyond her time. Just because we live in modern times doesn’t mean that they didn’t know skincare in ancient times. If you have access to fresh organic cow milk or cream, take advantage of it.
To tone my face:
I use floral water and hydrosol. Rose Geranium and Orange Blossom are both perfect florals to use for aging and dry skin. I love to make my own, but I use Gya Labs Rose Geranium Hydrosol and Tone Orange Blossom Floral Water when I’m out of time. They smell amazing. I spray on my face after cleansing, and anytime during the day, I want to feel refreshed.
If you have the time to make your own, that’s even better!
To hydrate my face:
After letting my floral hydrosol soak in, my first step is to massage Insta-Natural Vitamin C Serum to my face. It contains Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E. You will see by the reviews that I’m not the only person that loves this stuff.
I finish hydrating my skin with a facial serum that I make myself.
This recipe contains carrier oils and essential oils needed for my aging skin. You can certainly alter this recipe using any carrier and essential oils best for your skin type. Squalane Oil is very versatile and is suitable for all skin types.
I use a 2 oz blue cobalt glass bottle with an eyedropper.
2 tsp of Organic Avocado Oil
10 drops Neroli Essential Oil
6 drops each of the following essential oils: Rose Geranium Essential Oil, Frankincense Essential Oil, and Lavender Essential Oil
1/2 tsp Vitamin E Oil
Fill remainder of the bottle up with 100% Pure Squalane Oil
That’s it. I place a few drops on my hands and rub the serum over my face and neck each night before I go to bed.
