Have I mentioned that I have the most awesome life ever? I’m not bragging (ok, maybe I am a just a little). The thing is that it took me so damn long to get to here that I can’t help to let the world know. I had to go through a ton of bullshit in my life to get where I am.
When I say I have an awesome life, I’m not referring to material things. I don’t drive a fancy sports car or live in a mansion overlooking the ocean. Surprisingly enough, I live in a barn.
What I am talking about is the remarkable life of just loving life, with peace and happiness.
How did I get to have this life of awesomeness? Let me tell you it wasn’t always easy, but it was still worth it. Here is how I did it:
Get rid of relationships that hold you back.
It’s the hardest to do, but it’s worth it. I got so much flack for letting people go that weren’t good for me. Those people brought drama and hate in my life. Why would anyone think, including myself, that I must allow this in my life? You don’t, and you shouldn’t.
If you want an extraordinary life, you must set boundaries. People that genuinely care for you will accept these boundaries and stay; those that don’t will leave.
Remember, everyone comes into our lives to teach us a lesson. Not everyone is meant to stay. Let them show us what we need to know, wish them well then let them go.
This is my life…my story…my book. I will no longer let anyone else write it; nor will I apologize for the edits I make.” – Steve Maraboli
Decide what your heart desires.
What do you want in your life? Do it!!! Get clear and super focused on precisely what it is you want.
When I was young, my dream job was to be a photographer. I wanted to work for National Geographic, then life happened. I had kids, and my priorities changed. My dream became to be the best mom I could be.
Now, those kids are gone and starting their own lives. That means I get to refocus my priorities. While National Geographic hasn’t knocked on my door yet, I am still doing what I love. That is, being out in nature with my camera in my hand. Who knows, maybe one day while I’m clicking away, I’ll discover a new insect and National Geographic will be ringing my bell! The point is I focus like a crazy lady on making sure I spend time each day doing what I’m passionate about.
I would rather die in the flames of my passion than live a slow death in the comfort of conformity.” – Michael T. Coe
Be Alive.
You’re probably thinking, I am alive. No, you probably are not. When I say to be alive, I mean live in the moment.
How often do you drive down the road, get to your destination, and realize you had no idea how you got there? You were probably on autopilot, caught up in your thoughts and worries.
When you are alive, you notice the things around you while you’re driving. A beautiful tree you never saw before. A person broke down on the side of the road, and you offer to help. The guy picking his nose in the car next to you, and it makes you laugh as you wave at him.
Live every moment in the present time. Let go of the past or worries of the future and see how your world changes.
The purpose of life is to live it.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
Life Isn’t That Hard.
Have you ever been around someone that no matter how great their life is, they complain? You hear them say things about how hard life is and why can’t it be easier.
Stay away from those people.
Life isn’t hard; we make it hard. How do we do that? By the way, we think.
I’ve had people tell me that the reason I think this way is because nothing wrong ever happens to me. That is total bullshit. Just because I don’t turn into a hate-filled jealous raging drama queen when something terrible happens does NOT mean nothing bad has ever happened to me. I’ve had many bad things happen and could easily wallow down in self-pity so everyone will feel sorry for me. I choose not to. Let me repeat that I CHOOSE not to. Everything in your life is a choice.
Bad things will always happen; how you react to those things is entirely your choice.
We are not given a good life or a bad life. We are given a life. It’s up to us to make it good or bad.” – Unknown
One last thing that will help you have an awesome life. I’ve said it many times in this blog, and I’ll probably say it many more times. Be grateful!
