If you’ve ever been around me for a day or more, you will at some point see me holding a cup of herbal tea. I love herbal tea and there is a section in my cabinet dedicated to just about anything that ails you. Stomach upset? I got a tea for that. Headache? Yep, got you covered. Having trouble sleeping? Choose your blend.
While I may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I guarantee I can make you a cup of tea you’ll love.
What are the benefits of Herbal Tea?
Many herbal teas are caffeine-free and that means you can drink them before bed to help you unwind from the day.
It’s part of my nightly self-care and it even drives my guy crazy. Imagine we come home late after a date, he is ready to go to bed, but wait…. first my tea. No matter how late or where we are at. I must have my herbal tea to wind down.
As Peter Pan once said, “Would you like to have an adventure now, or shall we have our tea first?” Well, I’m always up for an adventure but I’d probably drink my tea first or least throw it in a cup to go.
Herbal teas offer many benefits depending on the herbs you use. They can improve your digestion, help you sleep, boost your immune system, relieve headaches, prevent disease and help with the pain. There is an herbal tea out there for almost every ailment you can think of. Unlike, medications you get from the doctor there a little to no side effects of herbal teas. **Special note. You should research any herbs you plan on taking. Check to ensure there are no side effects or interactions with any current medication you may be taking.
Drinking tea is also a good way to practice mindfulness each day. Take in the aroma of your tea and focus your attention on this cup of goodness.

What are some of my favorite herbal teas?
Peppermint.
This tea is good for headaches, digestion, sleep, clears your sinuses and even freshens your breath. I’ve drunk peppermint tea for many years and I’ve never been the person who gets headaches. If you are susceptible to headaches, it’s worth a shot of adding peppermint tea (cold or hot) to your diet and see if you notice a difference after a few weeks. I grow a ton of peppermint, but when I purchase peppermint tea it’s always Harney & Sons Organic Peppermint Tea and Traditional Medicine Peppermint Tea.
Tulsi (Holy Basil).
I’ve spoken many times about my love of Tulsi or Holy Basil. I grow it to use, I also take Holy Basil supplements and I drink Holy Basil tea. When it comes to Holy Basil tea my favorites for purchase are Tulsi & Rose (so sweet and yummy), Tulsi-Ashwagandha.
Dandelion Root.
If you are detoxing this is a great choice. The benefits of Dandelion Root are high fiber, detoxifying, rich in Vitamin A, protects your liver and bones, aids in weight loss and urinary tract infections. The best part it grows in your yard and you can easily cultivate your own. I’ve done both and my choice when I do buy is Traditional Medicine Dandelion Root Tea.
Ginger Tea.
This is a great tea to keep around the house. If I ever get an upset stomach, I drink this tea and it provides immediate help. It also reduces inflammation and strengthens your immune system. I always have a piece of ginger root laying around the house. If you prefer to purchase the tea my choice is Traditional Medicine Ginger Tea.
Turmeric Tea.
If you are not of fan of Turmeric but love the benefits of it, I suggest taking it in a supplement form. While I love Turmeric, it is a spicy taste that you must acquire. I drink Turmeric Tea for my inflammation and arthritis symptoms caused by my Lupus. Other benefits include healthy immune function, eases digestive issues, lowers blood sugar, treats cancer and Alzheimer’s. My choice to purchase Rishi Turmeric Ginger Tea.
Blueberry & Lavender Tea.
If having great skin is at the top of your self-care, there is even a tea for that. My choice: The Republic of Tea Daily Beauty and The Republic of Tea Sleep Beauty.
Why getting a sampler pack is a good first choice.
If you are new to herbal teas, I suggest getting a sampler pack. This will offer you a variety to find which herbs you prefer. Here are some great sampler packs that I’ve tried and enjoyed: Art of Tea Caffeine Free Starter Kit or Pukka Herbal Tea Sampler.
You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” ―
Not all tea is the same. There are many types of herbal teas as well as green, black, white and oolong teas. Some are caffeinated, which would not be a good choice if you are using tea to drink for self-care. Make sure you read the ingredients on tea before you purchase and stay away from any that contain artificial flavors.

One last thing, I must give a shout out to this company Secrets of Teas, that I recently came across. I’ve never bought any of their tea (you’ll understand why in a moment), but they make teas for those who want to be a mom, the pregnant mom, and the new mom. They even have baby tea and PMS tea. This ship sailed for me many years ago and why I haven’t bought their tea for myself. However, I love this idea and am eagerly waiting for my children to marry up and get someone pregnant, so I can gift them the Happy Mom Sampler Pack.
