So you are spending Valentine’s Day alone this year? I’ve been there, so I get how you might feel.
It was four years ago when I was going through a divorce. Valentine’s day was approaching, and I knew all my friends would be spending this time with the one they love. Since I was the only single friend, it was evident that I was spending this day alone.
I’m one of those people who are alright on their own. I’ve never needed anyone to complete me, and I can entertain myself. However, I didn’t want to spend this day at home alone. Instead, I decided to go to the movies. I was the only person in the movie theater that day, which was perfect. It felt like the movie was playing only for me.
Afterward, I bought myself some flowers and treated myself out to dinner. I might have even hugged myself at the end of the night, and I guarantee I went to bed wearing my sexiest pair of boyshorts.
Honestly, it was the best valentine’s day I’d had in twelve years. Sometimes you can be with someone and feel lonelier than you do when you are actually by yourself. Spending this day alone doesn’t have to be unbearable or cause you to wallow in self-pity. Instead, why not take the day to practice loving yourself.
Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” – Lucille Ball

If you are single, here is a list of ways to practice self-love on Valentine’s Day:
See a funny movie. A good laugh always makes you feel better.
Take yourself out for dinner. If seeing other couples doesn’t bother you, be bold, and sit in a restaurant by yourself.
Buy yourself flowers. Who says someone else must buy you flowers? Either way, they are beautiful and brighten your world, so buy yourself flowers.
Take a walk in nature. Nothing is as refreshing and good for clearing the mind than a walk-in nature.
Write a love letter to yourself. Write in detail all the things you love about you.
Throw yourself a pamper party. A hot bath, candles, and a glass of wine. The perfect way to celebrate yourself.
Detox on Social Media. Do yourself a favor and take a few days off social media. The last thing you need is to see others in love and getting engaged.
Sing & Dance. Get your playlist filled with your greatest dance hits, and get groovy.
Adopt a Pet. If you don’t have one to spend your day with, why not adopt a pet? They are great listeners and love you no matter what.
Read a book. Find a cozy spot and sit down to read a book on self-love. Here are some ideas:
You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero, The Self-Love Experiment: Fifteen Principles for Becoming More Kind, Compassionate, and Accepting of Yourself by Shannon Kaiser, Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies About Who You Are so You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be by Rachel Hollis and Good Vibes, Good Life: How Self-Love Is the Key to Unlocking Your Greatness by Vex King.
Celebrate yourself! That magnificent creature that you are.
