I first want to say that I am in love with my guy. He is by far the perfect one for me. However, when he said the words “sweetheart, I won’t be home Friday night, I have to work.” I must admit my thoughts drifted to pictures of me jumping into a perfect toe-touch while singing Cyndi Lauper’s, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. I was going to have the house to myself, and I would celebrate with a Pamper Party!
Five hours I was getting the house to myself. I daydreamed about all the possibilities of things I could accomplish in five hours. I am one of those people who must have alone time to recharge. It has always been an issue because most people don’t get me, but my guy gets it and never fails to give me this time.
Friday came, and I spent the first hour pampering the dog. The other four went as blissful as I had planned (except for my one oops)
If you are lucky enough to get a few hours of alone time in your own home, take full advantage of it by having your own pamper party.
How do you have a Pamper Party?
Start with kindness to yourself.
You don’t have to keep it in your mind, shout it out. Your home alone! Tell yourself, “I work hard taking care of everyone else; now it’s my time.” “I love myself enough to take this time to care for me.” Giving yourself loving affirmations helps relieve any lingering guilt that you may be having.
Prepare.
You can personalize this part to your liking. Foot scrubs, favorite foods, manicure, massage oils, etc. Whatever it is, get it all ready. For me, I use this time to prepare a hair mask, face mask, and body scrub. This time, I splurged and made a body mask as well. For a printout of all my recipes, I used click here.
You can use these recipes or mix them up to your liking. Add things that you have in your home to make this experience designed just for you.
Be Mindful.
It is a great time to be mindful. Be present in each moment and write down any feelings that you notice you may want to address. Fill this time with your favorite things, scents, foods, hobbies, and self-care. Notice what brings you joy and happiness. Let go of the past, the future, and even work from that day. It’s all about you at this moment.
Have fun.
After I apply my masks and give them time to work their magic, I have fun. Some fun things you can do are listen to music, dance, cook, etc. Whatever it is that brings happiness into your life, do it! Me? I danced, sang, and I sent selfies to my guy.
Want to see how scary that was for him?
Relax.
After I rinse off my masks and wash out my hair, I take a relaxing bath. Then I soak in my tub filled with my bath salts for twenty minutes while burning incense, listening to music, and drinking a cup of herbal tea. Other ideas to relax? Read a book, meditate, take a nap, give yourself a massage, etc. Now you are in full-blown self-care bliss.
Connect.
After my bath, I put on my best girl comfy clothing and curl up in my favorite chair, meditate then read a good book. Other ideas include: Watch a girl flick, write in your journal, drink a glass of wine while watching the stars, draw or paint, etc. Whatever you do to connect to yourself.
It is your time. Be you, discover you, celebrate you, and, most of all, love you. By the time others arrive home they are going to see this happy, relaxed and whole person. With any luck, they will want to leave you alone more often.
Now a little word on my Oops. My usual pamper party includes my body scrub; however, it had been a few years since I’d done a complete body mask. I didn’t have enough clay in the house to prepare a body mask, so I chose to use up some of the activated charcoal that I had. In my kitchen, I searched for things I could add, and this was what I came up with: Activated charcoal, coffee, sesame oil, patchouli essential oil. They were blended, and I covered my entire body with it. From my neck to my feet. It went on so smoothly, and it did feel incredible.
It was after I had done most of my pampering and was making my way back to my favorite chair to read, that I noticed black footprints on the floor. There was black on the walls, other places I touched, and I think some of the places I wasn’t even near. Oops! It took about an hour out of my pampering to clean.
Lesson learned, but my skin did feel amazing.
