After I posted my article, My Guide to Herbal Tea, I reminded myself of one of my favorite meditations. When I first began meditating, I learned about a practice called a teacup meditation. Teacup meditation is a great way to enjoy a cup of herbal tea as you unwind from the day.
Now I’m a little spoiled, my guy makes my bedtime tea. However, if you make your own remember to start practicing your mindfulness as you make it. When you select your teacup, notice why you chose that specific one, notice the smell of the tea as you prepare and enjoy this moment.

Please read through the entire teacup meditation before you begin.
Prepare your tea and sit in a quiet spot. Your eyes will be open during this meditation to keep the focus on your teacup.
Make sure that your tea is not so hot that you are unable to touch the cup. Hold the teacup in your hand and take some deep breaths. Try to breathe in the aroma of the tea.
What do you notice? It might be the fragrance of the herbs you chose, the heat from the steam, or possibly something entirely different.
Maintain focus on the cup of tea while taking deep breaths.
Smile at your cup of tea. Be grateful to have this moment of soothing tea to enjoy. At this moment right now you can be here, be present and be free.
If your mind starts to wonder, gently bring it back to focus again on the teacup and the aroma of the tea.
Take a deep breath through your nose. Let the air out as you blow over your cup of tea to cool it before you sip. Repeat this as many times as you feel necessary.
Take a sip of the tea. How does this feel as it touches your lips? Try to experience the drink and how the sensation of it slides down your throat. Make a mental note of anything you encounter.
Then lower the teacup again to your focus in front of you.
Maintain focus on the cup of tea and your feelings as you take each sip.
Repeat this instruction until your cup of tea has been consumed.
If you are keeping a journal (which I hope you are!), write down anything you notice or felt during this meditation.
Some highly aromatic teas that you may want to try for meditation are Organic India Tulsi Rose or Buddha Tea Third Eye Chakra.
If you enjoy blending herbal teas, try this fragrant tea. It’s one of my favorites.
