As I sit here just two days before Christmas arrives, I am thinking of what mindfulness challenge could help you this week. You’ve spent the last month or two trying to get ready for this one particular day, and hopefully, you plan to be present and enjoy it. If there is any day that people are mindful all on their own, it would be Christmas.
And that’s a good thing because I had no time to plan over the weekend. Why? I was busy being mindful. My kids were home for Christmas, and I found out I was going to be a grandma (Hooray!). Then, my youngest son presented me with a scrapbook about the two of us. Not only was my cup running over, it got swept away in all the love. I haven’t left the present moment to plan anything for the past forty-eight hours, nor have I stopped smiling either.
Therefore, today as I write this, all I could think of was that I wished everyone would have a cozy Christmas filled with togetherness and love.
When you look at your life, the best moments are those spent with laughter, love, and togetherness. – Ela
This week’s mindfulness challenge is to have yourself a cozy little Christmas.
Pick a time within the next seven days where you can spend practicing togetherness with those closest to you. This can be your significant other, your children, a dear friend, a family member, or even your pet.
Pick something (or several) that makes you feel cozy. Here are some ideas:
Make hot chocolate.
Cook warm foods or bake cookies.
Sit around the fireplace or woodstove.
Wear cozy sweaters, socks or pajamas.
Turn on the music and dance.
Build a tent inside your home.
Play games.
Take a walk in nature.
Have deep, meaningful conversations.
Laugh.
When the time arrives, turn off all electronic devices. Yep, that includes your phones, tablets, computers, and televisions (and any devices that I have yet to learn about).
As you take this time of enjoying coziness with those you love, notice the little things. Feel cozier at this moment than you would be wrapped inside of a marshmallow (now that’s cozy!)
Focus on giving love to those around you and let go of any expectations you have.
One more thing, don’t forget to laugh! Deep belly laughs are the coziest of all.
When you are done, notice what you enjoyed about this time and what you’d like to see more of in your life. Hopefully, this next year your life will be filled with cozy moments.
I wish you all a Mindful Cozy Little Christmas!
