So, you’ve decided to learn to meditate. Good for you! I can’t begin to express what meditation has done for me and I’m so happy to hear you are the same journey.
When I first began, I learned through guided meditations. Back in those days that happened by listening to a compact disc, now we’ve come to the age of apps. Apps are handy to have because they are easily accessible and each time you look at your phone, they are a reminder to open them.
However, if you are new meditation the number of apps to choose from can be overwhelming. Lucky for you, I’ve tried about all of them. These are my favorite meditation apps.
Please note that these links are all for Apple Apps. I am an affiliate for Apple because that’s all I’ve ever used. When you click on these Ad it takes you to their site and when you make a purchase it helps me keep my blog going. There is NO additional cost to you. My commission is paid by the seller. If you are interested in any of these apps, I’m certain they are available with your device as well.
Calm
What else is there to say? They have Matthew McConaughey telling you a sleep story. Need I say more? Even if you are not McConaughey fan (alright, alright, alright I guess I can accept that), this app has so much more to offer.
They have various other sleep stories, any kind of meditation practice you could ever want, soundscapes and mindful music. They have guided exercises for your body and breathing exercises. If you have kids? They have practices for them as well. They have it all! That’s why I don’t mind paying my yearly fee of $69.99 to be a part of it. It tracks my meditations and reminds me of when to meditate. It is my favorite app on my phone and the most used.
Simple Habits
If Calm decided to leave this world and never return, my next choice would be Simple Habits. No, they don’t have Matthew McConaughey, but they do have seventy-five different meditation teachers. Each of them provides a great variety of meditation practices, music, and soundscapes. My guy likes to fall asleep to their train sounds several nights a week. Like Calm, Simple Habits tracks your progress and works with your iWatch.
As with the other apps, you get some free meditations but to unlock all their features this one will run you about $11.99 per month or $95.99 a year.
Headspace
The first time I downloaded Headspace, it sat on my phone untouched for some time. Then one day, I decided to check it out and honestly, I didn’t get it. It seemed to be confusing and I deleted my app. Then I noticed that others were using this app and loved it, so I downloaded it again. This time I noticed it was better organized and was filled with better content. They even have this cool feature that you can buddy up and meditate with your friends. They even have live meditation groups that you can join.
You can get a free trial to try it, but to unlock all the features will cost you about $12.99 a month or $69.99 a year.
Oak
This app is beautifully laid out. The moment you open it you feel peaceful. They have guided and unguided meditation practices to help you on your journey. They also offer breathing exercises which I love. I used this app when I quit smoking and each time, I craved a cigarette I used their breathing exercises to get me through it. When you complete their practices, you get badges. The more badges you gain, the more meditation and breathing practices you unlock.
You can also purchase certain courses. For example, their ten days of mantra meditations will cost you $5.99. However, they have several free meditations to get you started.
