After I published my last article How I Transformed My Health, My Five Tips. I was going on about my business when it hit me. I didn’t put something that I feel is extremely important in there that has helped me with my chronic illness.
The first five tips in my previous article are what have helped me transform my health since being diagnosed. However, there is another tip that has helped me since the first day the doctor gave me the news.
My sixth tip for being healthy while having an auto-immune disease is this: A Positive Mindset.
Can you imagine what it was like to be twenty-six years old and pregnant while being diagnosed with something like Lupus? From the day I was diagnosed those around me, took it far worse than I did.
I’m not sure if I didn’t grasp the severity of it or what. I knew my grandmother had died from it, but honestly at twenty-seven, sixty-two years old seems like forever.
When I was younger, I never wanted to discuss this disease. I believed that the more I focused on it the worse I would feel and I felt bad enough already.
How cool was it that I got to know (more than likely) what I would die from, that was a joke I made often to myself.
I think one of the best things in my favor through all of this was my positive mindset. When I was first diagnosed, my number one goal was to live to raise my kids. I was determined to make sure I got to see those kids be adults.
Goal achieved.
Now my new goal is to live to be 88 and be the coolest old lady around. I don’t think about or plan on anything else.
Having a positive mindset is important in any illness. Some people give up and make themselves even sicker by worrying about something they can’t control. Research shows that being positive can even help lower Lupus flares and it has for me.
The times I was sickest with my Lupus were times I did not have my life balanced correctly. It was during these times that I let stress and pain affect my positive mindset.
That is not the case any longer.
I know having a chronic illness absolutely sucks a big one and I know there are times you don’t feel like being positive. However, I promise if you develop a positive mindset about your illness it’s going to help you in the long run.
My sixth tip is to have a positive mindset. So how do you get a positive mindset while having a Chronic Illness?
Here are some great affirmations to repeat to yourself daily to put you on the path of developing a positive mindset towards your illness.
Our minds are capable of anything and we will believe what we tell ourselves. If you believe your illness is your death sentence, then I promise you it is. If you believe that you are going to live each day to the fullest no matter what disease you have, you will. I hope you choose the latter.
Love & Peace,
Ela
